Anthony Simmons (writer)
Anthony Simmons (16 December 1922 – 22 January 2016) was a British writer and film director. He was associated with, though separate from, the Free Cinema movement; he said he was greatly influenced by Humphrey Jennings and by Michelangelo Antonioni’s movie ''Il Grido'' (1957). Early life Simmons was born in West Ham, the fourth of five children – three boys and two girls – to parents of Polish extraction, Miriam (née Corb) and Joseph Simmons (originally Anzulowsky), from a family of market traders. He was named Isidore but adopted the forename Anthony in his teens. After attending West Ham Grammar School, Simmons gained a law degree from the London School of Economics, where his course was interrupted by wartime service. Philip Martin (screenwriter)
Philip Martin (3 July 1938 – 13 December 2020) was an English television screenwriter. He created the BBC television drama series ''Gangsters'' in the 1970s and later wrote two television serials for ''Doctor Who'' during Colin Baker's tenure as the Sixth Doctor in the 1980s. Career His early work included regular series such as ''Z-Cars'' in the late 1960s/early 1970s, but his most famous work is the postmodern television series ''Gangsters''. This was an examination of race seen through an increasingly surreal vision of Birmingham's criminal underworld. Beginning as an acclaimed one-off edition of ''Play for Today'' in 1975, it was followed by two series of 6 episodes each in 1976 and 1978. Martin appeared in the series in several roles, including as himself. Gareth Davies is a British television director and actor. Davies began his career as an actor with stage roles at the Royal Court Theatre in London and a recurring role in the early BBC soap opera ''Compact''. It is though as a television director where Davies made his greatest impact. Christopher Charles Forrest Matthew (born 8 May 1939) is a British writer and broadcaster. He is the author of ''Now We Are Sixty'', inspired by the poems of A. A. Jeremy Burnham
John Richard Jeremy Burnham (28 May 1931 – 31 December 2020) was a British television actor of the 1960s and 1970s, and a screenwriter. Life and career Burnham began in the 1950s as an actor and appeared in many popular British TV series such as '' The Avengers'', ''The Saint'' and ''Randall and Hopkirk (Deceased)'' in 1969. In the mid-1970s he retired from acting and concentrated on screenwriting. With Trevor Ray, he co-authored the fondly-remembered children's science fiction horror serial ''Children of the Stones'' (1977). A novelization followed, also in 1977. A sequel novel, ''Return to the Stones'' appeared in 2012 as an e-book and in 2015 as a physical book. Ray and Burnham collaborated on a less well-known children's five episode serial entitled ''Raven'' (1977); they also wrote the novelization (1977).
